Participants needed for study at kingston University

Joined: 19 Oct 2010 Posts: 1 Bike: | Carbohydrate is the best source of energy in sport and exercise but there are many types of carbohydrates, so which type do athletes consume? Of the many various carbohydrate groups, they can be further divided into two groups, low glycemic and high glycemic, but which one is more beneficial to supply the body with energy for a competition? The purpose of this study is to find out which type will have the best effect on performance and will it make a difference when a carbohydrate drink is consumed during a race? We are looking for regular cyclists aged between 18 and 36 to participate in this study. Participation will involve 3 visits to the university within 2 weeks and participants will be required to consume a high and low glycemic carbohydrate meal before performing a 45km timed cycle trial. We will measure time to complete trials, heart rate, power, blood lactate and glucose. Please be aware that blood samples will be taken before and after exercise trials (this is a small finger prick).
