There is a good cycle route along the canal which goes between Bowling and Glasgow, start on this. Go further West from this and you hit Dumbarton, turn North from there and there is a pleasant 6 mile stretch to Balloch at the foot of Loch Lomond. This either goes * West over the hills in to Helensburgh (5 miles) or * North West on very quiet roads into Glen Fruin and on to the navy base (6 miles - great road and good hill) * North along the cycle path along the western side of Loch Lomond to Arrochar (about 14 miles - get the train back from Arrochar along the West Highland Line) * East along along back roads to Croftamie and Drymen and on to Aberfoyle via some good hills (about 20 miles to Aberfoyle but only about 7 miles to Croftamie and another 3 to Drymen) Go East from the canal path into Clydebank, towards Glasgow and you can either * Go into Glasgow along the river (good path) * Head North East along the Forth and Clyde Canal to Edinburgh via Falkirk. (Long way but you can turn round wherever you like) There is a route from Balls Bridge in Glasgow city centre which can take you back to Paisley. Most of these routes are part of the NCN. Have a good time, I hope the sun comes out for us!! Lee |
