I live in kent and while we have plenty of short steep hills, I'm looking for something longer and harder. So where are the longest hardest hills in the UK? Thanks.

If you have a mountainbike and enjoy climbing you won't have to go far from home. The South Downs Way from Petersfield to Eastbourne will give you what seems like an entire 2 days of climbing.

Hard work for the clysdedales!

the only hill of note is the infamous Bealach Na Ba on the Applecross Peninsula on the West Coast of Scotland

"Bealach-na-Ba or Bealach nam Bo (Pass of the Cattle) is the UK’s biggest road climb at 2053ft (626m) from sea level in just 6mls (10k). It is set in a fabulous unspoilt landscape with outstanding views of the sea and the hills. The Applecross Peninsula is renowned as a gem in Scotland’s crown of natural wonders."

it is a killer, but the beer and food and the view at the Applecross Inn are worth it.

it goes up....and up....and up....and up....

there is an annual race there

short course round a loop - about 50 miles
long course around a bigger loop at 90 ish miles

Yorkshire Dales - actually the highest roads in England here, some over 2000ft. Long climbs and also plenty of shorter, vicious ones - string a few of these together and you begin to feel them!!

Not as busy as the Lakes and not nearly as far to go as Scotland! Recommended.

This web page has 2 PDF's on it containing descriptions of the highest roads in Britain open to wheeled vehicles:

You find plenty of challenging climbs in them!

The world's biggest hills, often referred to as mountains, are found in the Himalayas, with Mount Everest being the tallest. Other major ranges include the Andes in South America and the Rockey Mountains in North America.
