I thought it may be a good idea to see which bike set-ups members have...

I have an '08 Specialized Rockhopper Disc - I added CB Eggbeaters (SL's) and a few scratches due to taking a crash course in how to fly a bike! :-)

Other than that it's standard at the moment...

I'm really impessed with the bike tho - very light compared to bikes I'm used to, I've never had hydraulic disc brakes before either - take a bit of getting used to... over the bars a few times at first.

2 bikes, both quite old. I have a 1988 Saracen Tufftrax still with Biopace chainset. And a Columbia, Worksop, England frame I bought in 1982 and have been adding to since then. I first used my Puch Prima 12 as donor and gradually changed bits. Only bit left from the Puch is the front hub, a Maillard Normandy (back is replacement Normandy). It is still basically a 80's bike with Suntour Vx rear and Arx front mechs and 27" wheels. When freewhell is ready for changing I might look at 700c wheels.

Specialized Roubaix comp, carbon framed road bike. I am looking at getting a Specialized Camber comp MTB in the near future.
Have recently re-discovered the joy of cycling so I take a lot of advice on what bike to get, my brother-in-law is a serious cyclist living in Perth, W.Australia and it was on his advice that I got the Roubaix...

I bought a TREK 8500 in 2001, it now has at least 55000 miles on the clock and like Triggers broom, only the frame is original.
It gets serviced twice a year with new running gear and is superb to ride, was the best £1400 ive ever spent!

Hi. I've now got a Boardman Sport MTB after having a Raleigh Venturer tractor for almost 14 years. What a difference after riding tne venturer, and totally transformed when I fitted some continental travel contact tyres. Looking forward to some good rides this summer including my first ever London to Brighton ride (why has it taken me so long to decide to do it)...

Hi, I've got an old Raleigh M-Trax 2000L with some worn out Manitou forks. It's getting on a bit (like me) but I really love it.
It was one of the hand built frames that Raleigh did back in the 1990’s (do they still do that?) and I even have the original post card sized document of authenticity which includes a passport sized photo of the guy who built it!

I also have an aluminium frame Principia road bike; light and fast!!
I think Aluminium is out of favour for road bikes these days but I'll stick with what I have for now 'cos replacing it would be very expensive...

I have a Trek Suntour mountain bike with 21 gears. Solid fast little mover, doesn't take much effort to get a fair speed up, but I slow it down with panniers full of stuff I never really need.

Pinnacle Borealis 1.0 2010 Hybrid Bike.

Loving it, happy with the speed, although was recently overtaken by a pair of lycra clad ladies on the Windsor road, who seemed to be pedalling quite casually in their skinny wheeled 'pro' bikes. They sure put me place.

Hi, I've got a Cube attention 2011, with heroic disk brakes and you can lock out the suspension from the handle bars; which I thought was pretty cool

I ride my Condor tourer most of the time. It's not too bad weight wise but the gearing could be better, so going to try to fit a smaller inner chain ring (30) to see if that helps. Got an old Claud Butler 531 framed road bike that i've built up with modern kit on which is nice to poddle about on.

Hi there.
Another newbie to this excellent forum.
My current steed is a 2008 Specialized XC Expert which i had to purchase after my beloved stumpjumper elite with chromed frame was nicked from work by some low life thieving b@$^%rd even though it had 3 locks!!
Luckily I was able to claim it back on the house insurance even though I explained it to them several times that it was nicked from work.
Result!!
The Spesh XC Expert is well light & dead chuckable which makes it a very lively seat of the pants ride which is how I like it

I also have an old crock for a work steed now.
Hand built Barracuda Curacao is what it says amongst the scratches on the frame
but as I bought it for only £30 from a bloke at work im not bothered about it getting dirty.

Cheers now
Carl

Have thinned down the horde of bikes in the garage lol. Currently got a Felt F5C with lots of carbon fibre eye candy all the way from the handlebars to the cranks running on Dura Ace running gear. Then for getting muddy I have the not very subtle lime green Focus Killer Bee with lovely XT and XTR running gear on it. Oh yeah and some bling Chrome and Gold V12 pedals. Perfect until you slip and they rip all the skin off your shins grrrrrr

The old crock what i had for work has passed its best by date.
New rear wheel needed
Two tyres wanted
Cables all around
Something seriously wrong with the headset too.
Defo not worth spending some hard earned cash on it

Anyway to cheer myself up I bought off ebay this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-Rare-Retro-Specialized-Hardrock-23-Bike-/290600026125?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item43a91c800d

Picked it up the other day & had my 1st ride on it today
I reckon its an 88 model & for the price & year I consider it a bargain & in excellent condition.
It rides superb too
Very retro
I would like to get the odd chips on the paint work done some time in the future.
Anyone know roughly how much this would cost me?

Carl

Hi there i've just joined this forum
as i said in the where do you live thread i've recently come back to cycling both as means to save some money on the ever spiralling fuel costs and to get fit.
i have taken up road riding and have a Specialized Allez Elite that as yet is totally standard but i think i may put a bigger chainwheel on.
i still have a very battered Cannondale M800 with Rock shock forks that i have had since this model was new, so some time, it still gets an airing occasionally

I have a 2001 Trek 5.2 for when it is raining and a 2008 Specialized Tarmac pro when it isn't.

Despite the fact I am rarely under 20 stone, both bikes appear to be almost bomb proof.

Hi,
I had a land rover discovery mtb which did me proud for 250 quid for 4-5 yrs! Last yr I bought a specialized sirrus elite and although I love it and have done 2500 miles on it in 18 months commuting and social riding I have also had a load of problems with the bottom bracket and a unhelpful bike shop in getting it fixed!! But now after its warranty has run out I've paid for it to be fixed by a smaller friendlier local shop and so far so good! I've now also bought a Matts merida mtb because I was missing out on rough rides on the sirrus. Both bikes were bought through the cyclescheme which I recomend to any one who is on a budget.
