Can anyone please advice on what cycle computer is best,as there seems to be a debate regarding wireless and wired. I have a mountain bike with fork suspension. I need help as my I phone app eats battery power and so I do not get the data needed.
Also is anyone doing the great north ride?
Iam trying to build up to do this ride, and would like get some rides in with anyone in the cramlington area.
Thanks for any help.

Hi alas58, it depends what you're looking for: something to measure distance / performance and / or GPS navigation?

iPhone battery life issues aside, there's a useful article here on apps which may be useful for navigation:

... a much cheaper alternative to the dedicated bike satnav units which cost £400+

Hi
By cycle computer i assume you mean something that tells you how far you have gone, how fast you are going, time, possibley average speed, trip distanc e and works off a magnet on the spoke.

I have 2 of these 1 wireless and 1 wired. both are old in the tooth and basic but still working, get a bit flaky in the wet but then so do i. That can be solved by silicon based gell (hemaroid cream works too - ask marc beaumont).
Wired VDO is fine if you secure the wires well and dont keep moving it about.
Wireless (Cateye) takes 2 batteries, 1 one bar unit and 1 on spoke, which i find a pain when they fail at different rates.
You can get both types for about £25.

Good luck.
