hi
i'm looking to organize a charity bike ride from chester to anglesey and am after any advice on the most traffic free route . i know about sustrans route 5 ( i think) , but am concerned about penmaenmawr to bangor stretch and want to avoid the A55 trafic as much as possible. we're all amature riders .
any help or advice would be appreciated.

hi tylerterrier
its not the penmaenmawr to bangor bit on the A55 you hav to worry about thats all on a new route which follows the railway in parts, its was open in the last couple of years.
its the first couple of miles out of conway along the A55, you have to travel along a wideish footpath running along side the main road as long as you are carefull & take your time you'll be ok, just hope for a dry day as the traffic spray will be terriable it only last for a mile or so so you could walk it if you were concerned.
the route other than that is very nice & mostly well sign posted be carefull on the flint part and look out for the hill at bagilt, if you get chance check these out before.
hope you have a great time & raise lots

You should follow the official cycle path/walking route around Conway harbor it is virtually traffic free before joining the dedicated cycle path alongside the a55 duel carriageway towards pen-y-clip tunnels here you climb above the 55 on very quiet narrow lanes before dropping into Bangor on what seems like an old railway path. follow route across the straights on the old bridge but be careful you don't link up to southbound cycle route heading for Caernarfon coming out of Bangor.
