When I did this I found it was useful and I also had the knowledge that if I started to lag a bit I could be home quite soon. When I was comfortable I started adding hills and making the loops bigger. I think I read somewhere that if you can ride 75% of your target distance in training you can do the full distance no worries when it comes to the event (at least, that is what I'm aiming for with the C2C!) |

Pump your tires up hard, read the pressure on the side wall. You will significantly reduce any drag with tires at the right pressure. Don't chase the pack for the first couple of miles, start gently and then build up your speed. Get your seat height correct. Many new cyclists have it too low. Plenty on the web about this. If part of the route is into the wind don't kill yourself trying to batter into it, just slow down a bit to something comfortable. If its a fun ride I would take a 5 minute break every 5 miles for a drink and stretch. Hydration is very important even on such a short ride if its warm Eat carbs a few hours before and something sugary just before you depart. Take a banana to eat on route. Most importantly pace yourself as you will likely be riding for 2 1/2 hours and you will want to finish with alacrity. It may sound like a lot to consider, but I am a regular cyclist with reasonable cycle fitness and ride this sort of distance and above regularly, and getting some of these things wrong can spoil my day. |

The guys at the front do all the work, and the rest of the peleton have a (relatively) cruising time of it good luck! |
