We can't decide between option A) east from Durness to Tongue, and then down to Lairg on the A836, or option B) to go south from Durness on the A838 to Kinlochberive, cutting inland on the A838 via Lich Shin to Lairg, or finally, option C)south on A838, then after Kinlochbervie turn off, continue south now onthe A894, via SCourie, before cutting inland, on the A894 for a bit then the A837 past Ledmore to Lairg. Distances are not a problem on any of these options, and appears to be accomodation possibilities whichever option we go with (especially if we take a tent), so really it's just down to which is the most scenic/interesting route! So any comments on either of these options would be much appreciated. Thanks! Julie |

Option c I've never cycled but did motorbike down that way, though not on the a837 part. More big climbs I seem to remember. Whichever you choose, the scenery is absolutely stunning... |

Option B is the most direct and is the route you would take by car if you wanted to get from Durness to Lairg. Option C can be made more interesting if you turn off at Kylesku and go over a very hilly road to Lochinver by Drumbeg,Stoer and Clachtoll. Some good beaches along this road. Adds a lot of mileage thoughas it's an extra loop. The main road direct from Kylesku to Ledmore isn't very exciting. Have a good trip. I live in Inverness and know the area well - could have joined you for a bit if I didn't have to work. Cheers. Stewart |
