Hello people!

I'm relatively new to cycling (1 year) and want to get away on new routes at weekends. I am happy to explore routes around Glasgow, but also want to go down for a few rides around the Innerleithen area before the winter sets in. I have just come back from a few days cycling in the Borders and loved it! Miles better roads than I've found around here and surprisingly quiet.

I suppose somewhere between 45 and 60 miles would be my ideal distance per day for a weekend trip.

I am not competitive or speedy, and still cycle with flat pedals (because I have peculiar feet!)but I am determined and not averse to a bit of a challenge.

If you want a bit of company on a ride and a blether along the way why don't you post and let me know where you're coming from?

Cheers
Mandy

Thanks Ceejay and Jon!

I didn't get an email saying there had been any replies to my post for some reason. Must have missed the option to set this up when I registered. Luckily I just wandered back onto the site tonight - and got a nice surprise!

Ceejay, I like the sound of the Lothian Meet-up, and definitelt liking the pub stop idea....but as I'm Glasgow, I should maybe try to find something similar out this way - but maybe the Lothian group is a "one-off"!!!

Jon, I will drop you an email to find out more.

Thanks again :)

Hi Pete

Welcome to Scotland and thanks for replying to my post! I could understand your English accent as I'm originally from down South myself :)

I just spotted from your own post in the Scotland forum that you're just 20 years old. Thanks for the offer to contact you...but I would feel a bit of an old granny cycling with someone so young!!!

One of the replies that I got mentioned a "meet-up" group as a possibility. There is one in Glasgow. They do seem to do some quite fast/hard rides....but it might be worth you checking them out. After all you say you're quite fit! Have a look at their website at www.grcm.org.uk

Good luck!

Mandy x

Hi glasgowdan

Thanks for posting :) I'll have a look at the Stirling club's website....but not sure a club's what I'm looking for. I'd just like to have one or two folk to cycle with from time to time.

I did one of my wee local routes on Saturday...just 28 miles up towards fenwick, left turn to the windfarm, on to Eaglesham and back to Shawlands via Waterfoot. Stopped off at the windfarm for the first time. Would have been nice to have shared coffe and cake with a mate :)

I think you're an off-road cyclist judging from your earlier posts (NO! I am NOT stalking you!) Maybe if you meet any female/male road cyclists who are local enough to the Shawlands area and happy averaging around 13.5 mph on mixed terrain....you could mention my name!

Cheers
Mx

Hi Ais67

Thanks for posting. I seem to be gathering a few posts....maybe we should all go out a run together! Are you a boy or a girl. I don't think I can go fast enough for boys...unless they are very old and worn out!! Drop me a line on amandajsykes@gmail.com and tell me more :)

A couple of options that may be of interest to you:

A social cycle group made up of Skyride leaders plus those that have been on Sky Rides through out the summer. Details of rides will be posted on the facebook page. There will be a ladies only ride on 9th December if that is to your interest. They ride lengths and difficulty will vary and mountain bike rides are also planned.

Glasgow road cycling meet up group. Normally cycles on both Saturday and Sunday for you to pick from.

Sorry just reread the thread and see that you are already aware of http://www.grcm.org.uk/

The rides do go at the slowest rider.

I am in Rutherglen and I am often out mid-week day times if that suits you to meet up.

Hi Jill, thanks for you posts :) Been busy out and about recently hence delay in replying. Went to Lanzarote for 9 days and hired road bikes out there. Good fun but probably still prefer UK...more choice of roads - even though they are bumpy! UK has so..ooo.o.ooooo much nicer scenery! We did our first Grade 1 climb. Whoop! Whoop! Hairpin bends and everything!!

Thanks for the tips re stuff going on. I can't make midweek rides unfortunately as I work. Have you tried the meet-up rides then? And/or the Skyride ones. Interested to hear more about them :)

Hi Ian

I missed your post 'cos I was busy cycling in Lanzarote. We went out on the 2nd for 9 days. And then I was in Belfast last weekend. Not cycling this time!

I like road cycling and exploring the UK (and lanzarote!)rather than cycle path stuff to be honest, so not sure if we'd be looking for the same sort of rides.

What do you think?
