Glasgow To Loch Lomond

Joined: 17 Mar 2010 Posts: 1 Bike: | Im doing a sponsored cycle to Loch Lomond with a group of my friends. But I'm a bit wary about cycling on the main roads. Does anyone know where the Loch Lomond cycle route starts in Glasgow? And how easy/hard the route is? Thanks Gillian |

Joined: 02 Feb 2009 Posts: 14 Bike: My Profile | Gillian, You can start on the Forth and Clyde canal towpath at Spiers Wharf and this will take you all the way to Dumbarton without going on a road. You then have a short on road bit through Dumbarton and it's then pathway all the way to Balloch and beyond (as far as Tarbet if you wish). Go for it ! Ron. |

Joined: 06 Sep 2009 Posts: 1 Bike: | the route starts at bells bridge next to the crown plaza hotel across from the science centre, its all track till you get to dunmarton. just keep your eye on the little blue cycle signs for national route 7. just a quick transfer on a couple of B class roads passing the dumbarton central staition. once you rejoin the track next to the river its track all the way through. passing a few little housing estates though. best of luck & enjoy. i can show you the way if you like? |

Joined: 27 May 2010 Posts: 2 Bike: | Hi Gillian, I use the Plaza route too, you can pick this up from the broomielaw -head for SSE, goes past partick & the glasgow harbour. This is a great route. It's tarmac some of the way but mostly it's smooth track. Couple of pot holes & when you go through Scotstoun and yoker there's a lot of broken glass around. Once past yoker and clydebank it's quite a pretty ride when you get onto the canal all the way through to bowling, if you need any assistance with your bike there's a wee bike shop in bowling. A bit bland then til you get past dumbarton but a good workout and popular route. Walkers, joggers & cyclists all very friendly. Hope you enjoy, if you fancy a couple of drinks in balloch -the train station is right there for the return. Great trip for groups. |
