As the title above says id love to try this,

Only recently took up cycling (25 i know shocking!) but im fortunate enough to stay just off Sauchiehall Street and discovery the Forth and Clyde Canal, I've been cycling to the Falkirk wheel and back the last few weeks i average around 5 hours all in,

But im looking for a few tips as in how long it might take, where in Edinburgh the canal ends as i have a few friends thats stay out Leith Walk might considering paying them a visit

And finally, if for whatever reason i cant cycle the journey back does anyone know if its possible to take my bike on public transport?!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi General Zod,

It's a frequent request this one actually. Have a look at the Glasgow to Edinburgh Cycle Route here.

I'm pretty sure you can get your bike on the trains that go from Edinburgh to Glasgow, you just need to find the right carriage that accepts them.

Hope that helps.

Union canal ends in Fountain Bridge, just a short hop to leith walk from there. We just did most on the union canal today and im sure its 37.7 miles from the Wheel to Fountain bridge so about the same as the forth and clyde and return. So basically you should be looking at around the 5 hour mark. I did livingston, falkirk wheel, livingston in 4 hours 10, averaging 12 mph on a mountain bike with semi slicks. its all the anti car obstacles and slowing up for the blind corners at bridges that slow you down. As for the return journey you can take your bike on the train from Waverley right into Queen street or Central(central is the quicker route via Falkirk.

Hope this helps.

Hey, the train is generally fine to get your bike on, I've never had any problesm except during rush hour. But you won't be able to take your bike on the bus as they actually make you take your bike apart, put it in bags, and put it in the luggage locker.
