At first, let me introduce ourselves. We are a new and small organization in the Netherlands. We all live in the Province of Drenthe. Locally known as “the highlands of Hollandâ€.
We are planning to make a sponsord cycle tour in 2013 from the province of Drenthe (the highlands of Holland) to the Highlands in Scotland. The jumping-off place will be somewhere in the centre of the Scottish Highlands. (Perthshire)
We try to find Dutch sponsors to help us to raise money for education in the developing countries in the world. Every cyclist has his own education project and will take care of a lot of sponsors.
The motto of this compaign is; “pedaling for educationâ€.
Now we are seaching for a good cycle route through the United Kingdom and Scotland without a lot of traffic. Easy or moderate to go for a group of about 100 persons, with good opportunities to stay overnight. Dayly marsline about 50-60 miles. We arrive at Newcastle or Hull by ferry.
Who can help us to get a save and interesting route to get there and back or any information to get such a map with cycle routes.
Kind regards

Hello Klaas
Sustran route 1 from Hull or Newcastle to Berwick, Route 76 to Edinburgh, route 1 to Kinross, route 775 to Perth and route 77 to Pitlochry. Sustran have all of the maps on their site. You could also just go onto google maps and get directions using the cycling option and I think it shows you the same routes. The routes are good if you are not in any kind of hurry.
I cycled from Bridlington (near Hull) to Thurso (top of Scotland) in Nov 2009 and can recommend a route which will take you through Hexham, next to Hadrian's Wall...if you also fancy a British historical perspective to your journey. :-)
Leaving Hexham there is an amazing farm hostel which is dirt cheap and very practical for a group of riders. As you have 100 riders there is a barn above the hostel which could accommodate you all.
Durham is also a very nice county in the North of England and my route will take you through Kielder Forest and there are some great views and camping spots -wild or commercial, just before you reach the Scottish border.
I am looking out my old diary and putting the route together and will upload it in the next few days.
