This is a good route that mixes canal pathways, which have a good riding surface, and road riding, but is mainly along the canal pathways. Head up to Platt Bridge and take the left turn onto the A58. Just before the canal there is a slip road path to the left. Take this and turn right onto the canal. You can now folow the canal systems all the way up to Appley Bridge. Retrace your ride back to Standish Lower Ground, where you leave the canal and join the B5375 heading towards Wigan. It is now road riding all the way back to Abram. Obviously if you wish, you could just retrace the whole route and stay on the canal system from Standish Lower Ground to Platt Bridge. |
