Cycle Steps
From Bolton, follow the A58 through Westhoughton and Hindley, then the A577, through Ince-in-Makerfield, into Wigan. In Wigan, pick up a previously posted route "Wigan to Halsall via canal towpath". This picks up the canal off the B5375, at Standish Lower Ground, and follows it to the Saracens Head at Halsall. However, you now continue on the canal through Haskayne, Downholland, Maghull and Aintree. At Aintree you leave the canal, picking up Wango Lane/Aintree Lane, till it crosses the A506, and becomes Copple House Lane/Stonebridge Lane. Continue on this to the East Lancs Rd, A580 junction. Turn left onto the A580 and follow this for a long, long drag on a cycle path to Boothstown. Turn left onto the A577 and follow this to the right turn onto the A5082. Follow this to Little Hutton. Here you turn left onto the A6 and follow it to the A579 junction. Turn right onto the A579 and follow this up to the left turn into Dean Church Lane. Follow this, Hawthorne Road, Mount St Josephs Road and Greenbank Road back to the start point.
