There is evidence of people settling here even before the Romans came from the prehistoric burial places. The first coal mine was in the 17th century and then the Grand Western Railroad wasn't far behind. During World War II, this was a home for the prisoner war camp so the bombings didn't destroy the city. It is easy to navigate in this town, with 2 rail stations and a bus station.
