Cycle Steps
This road route follows as many B-roads and country lanes, as possible, on a long loop around the downlands of Sussex.
Starting at the Seven Dials, Head North out of Brighton onto Devils Dyke Road. Turn onto Saddlescombe Road, then the A281 (North). Turn onto Truster's Hill heading North, then onto B2116. Turn onto Wineham Lane to Wineham. Then left onto Kent Street (Lane), then Picts Lane (this will bear left eventually) and take you on the A281 (North). Pass through Crabtree and take a right onto Leechpond Hill (B2110) through Lower Beeding onto Handcross Road (heading North-East). Go through Plummer's Plain (still B2110) to Handcross. You are now at the most northernly point on the route. Now head South on the B2114 to Staplefield. Stop for a pint/lunch at the The (Three?) Jolly Tanner's. Now take the Cuckfield Road South through Cuckfield Rural, then left (East) to Cuckfield. Then head South on the B2036 to Ansty. Carry on Harvest hill (B2036) to Burgess Hill. At Burgess Hill head East toward the train station then onto the B2113 (this turns into Middleton Common Lane). Next turn South onto Streat Lane, through Streat onto the A275 (South), through Offham and the outskirts of Lewes and onto the A277. Cross over the A275 onto Ashcombe Hollow (East) till you hit Kingston. Go through Kingston on Wellgreen Lane and then turn Southward on Swanborough Hollow through Iford, Rodmell, Southease, and Piddinghoe before ending at Newhaven. Go through the one-way system and onto the Brighton Road (A259). This will take you through Peacehaven and past Saltdean to Brighton. Enjoy!
Landmarks/Pubs for lunch/Sites to see?
