A great hour to 90 minute ride, of which, about a half is off road (hard chalk). Streat Lane is a favourite country lane, leading to a steep path up the downs. If you're not great on hills, allow about 15 mins to walk this bit. Then a lovely 20-30 minute ride along the South Downs way to Clayton windmills, where you join the road back to Burgess Hill. This is not a beginners ride. I took my 10 year old and we walked up the steep bits.

The route up the downs wasn't very clear on the GPX file which had it going straight on from Streat Lane. Was put off going up the intended route Streat Bostall by the signs saying private road keep out! Went via the Half Moon pub (where I stopped for refreshment) and up the track from their. Route change and pub stop probably contributed to taking me 4hrs instead of 90minutes! Needs clarification around Streat Bostall.
