This is a quick loop around Catrine, that is mostly on single track roads. Head out on the B713 and up to Catrine House, round Old Howford Road near to the The Ballochmyle Viaduct, which is the highest extant railway viaduct in Britain. Next round through some country roads onto the Barnoy Road (B7036) heading to Auchinleck. Go straight through the traffic lights then cut back round the top of Auchinleck heading out on Coal Road to loop back towards Sorn. Turn left at the B713 crossroads and head back into Catrine. |

Ballochmyle Viaduct main line from England to West of Scotland Glasgow. On the Barnoy Road stretch you will find an immense pit-head winding gear, which dominates the skyline around the village of Auchinleck in East Ayrshire. The Barony A-Frame is the last remnant of the Barony Colliery, which operated between 1907 and 1989 and employed up to 1200 people at its peak. |
