County Donegal is situated in the north west of Ireland in the Ulster province although is not part of Northern Ireland. Many ROI residents consider County Donegal to be separated from the rest as they uphold their historic traditions such as Gaelic games and the Irish language which is where the name Donegal comes from, 'The Fort of the Foreigners'. The county has many monasteries and abbeys to visit some of which date back to the 5th Century.
