From Meiklemill Primary School, head up onto the main road and go left towards the town centre, turning right at the roundabout to head out of Ellon on the Peterhead road. After the Park & Ride, turn left onto the Auchnagatt road, then almost immediately turn right onto the Balmacassie road (unclassified), follow this road until it comes to a Tee junction, turn left back towards Ellon. After the noticeable dip in the road, turn right at the 'Y' junction which takes you back towards the Auchnagatt road, once onto this road, continue towards Auchnagatt until the junction after the turn off to the Fuschia Plant Centre. This road is a rapid descent past the old railway line, then a sudden incline to the top of the next hill. At the top of the hill turn left, this takes you to the Ythanbank/Methlick road. Turn left at this junction back towards Ellon. Follow this road back to the Haddo House road and turn right onto it at the Tee junction heading away from Ellon. After the bridge over the Ythan and short steep climb, turn left and head uphill past Esslemont Primary School. At the Crossroads, go straight across (beware of traffic coming up the hill from Pitmedden!) and head towards the Quarry, turning left at the Tee junction to go past the Quarry entrance heading back towards Ellon. This road takes you up the last hill of the route and back down a steep descent into Ellon, turn left at the bottom of the hill, then right on Provost Davidson Drive to return to the Primary School. |
