Monday 18 April, 2011. We used the Nick Cotton guide (OS - East Anglia South) and particularly enjoyed visiting Kersey and the run back to Long Melford via Milden. Some lovely old roads surprisingly hilly in places, but with very rewarding views. You might like to include the old Chapel of St James (English Heritage) just outside Kersey. The village also has a wonderful medieval church and very good Inn. Sadly, Boxford no longer has a pub - the Fleece is now a Thai restaurant. However, the village of Polstead has a very decent pub, open at weekends, and a nice Community shop which serves delicious local ice-cream. And Hadleigh has the splendid Crabtrees, situated in a lovely old building, with courtyard and even a fishpond for your coffee or afternoon tea break. We didn't sample the cakes but they all looked wholesome and delicious. Next door is a first-class old-fashioned grocer's too, where you can stock up on all your favourite things to take home. In short, a very satisfactory tour, thank you.

All the roads north of the main road offer safe and relatively easy cycling. Scenic and hardly any traffic. Just off route is the excellent cycle shop at Bildeston.
