Tucked into the Northwest region is the most eye pleasing scenery. Although its not very populated, there are over 100 towns and villages that include the surrounding islands. Mostly Gaelic speaking, travellers have used the Highlands as a means to get to the Lowlands since the prehistoric era. 1.8 million years ago the whole area was covered by sheets of ice. The highest mountain in Britain is Ben Nevis. Besides magnificent scenery to explore there are seven castles, countless loch's, a whiskey distillery, wildlife parks and the Ben Cruachan hydro-electric power station.
