This is a run exclusively on canal towpaths. It is downhill for first section of route, with some road crossings when the canal disappears under the roads. It changes to flat on the approach to Wigan, and the scenery changes to an urban landscape. Once through Wigan this soon gives way to picturesque countryside views. The Gathurst and Appley Bridge sections of the route are busy with walkers on weekends. So I suggest that you invest in a loud bell, give them plenty of warning of your approach, but still be prepared to be scowled at. |

I did part of this ride Wigan to Appley Bridge today, its a nice varied ride and it was easy to get the train back to Wigan from Appley Bridge. Took about 35 minutes and train back about 8, will keep on going to Burcough I think next time. | ||
