County Laois is situated in the Irish midlands in the Leinster province. Seventy percent of the county's land is agricultural with 230,000 cows in the area - thats 4 cows per person. Places to visit would include the Rock of Dunamase where a fort (dun) was built in the 9th Century and in the 12th Century a castle was built on the same land. A number of manor houses can also be found in the county as well as Mountmellick Quaker Museum and Dunamase Arts Centre in Portlaoise.
