This is a mixed route of roads, Trails and Cycle Paths. Starting from Morrisons car park, the route initially utilises the Trans-Pennine Trail. It heads westwards up to Gatewarth Tip, in Sankey. It then briefly picks up the Sankey Valley Trail to Sankey Bridges on Liverpool Road. From there you cross the road and continue down Hood Lane. Cross the dual carriageway, A57, at the pelican and continue straight on along Hood Lane North. At the junction, follow Hood Lane North left and then take the first right into Burtonwood Road. This is a quiet route which passes through Chapelford Village housing estate. Continue along Burtonwood Road, straight on at the roundabout then straight on at the M62 junction roundabout (keep to the left to negotiate the junction safely at the pelicans). After passing the entrance to the motorway services, take the right turn into Tan House Lane. Follow the road which bends to the left to form Farmer's Lane. At the T junction turn right onto Fir Tree Lane. Pass Alder Lane, to your right, then take the next right into Hall Lane, which is a quiet narrow lane that bears right. Follow all the way to the T junction with Alder Lane. Turn left then next right (Fiddle I'th Bag pub to your left) into Old Alder Lane. Follow the road to just before the railway bridge and to the right is the Sankey Valley Way track. Follow the track South, under the M62 motorway passing a scrap yard to your left, then turning right immediately after passing under the bridge. Follow the Sankey Valley Trail through to Sankey Valley Park, where the route runs alongside the canal to the A57 Dual Carriageway. Here you head for Warrington Town Centre along the cycle path. Just before the traffic island, turn right under the subway to bring you out on the other side of the carriageway, then negotiate via the cycle lanes along Liverpool Road, over the railway bridge. Turn right onto the A5061 toward Warrington Bank Quay Railway Station. After passing the Station, turn next right into Slutchers Lane, over the bridge and next left (buses only) into Centerpark Employment Area. Turn left at the junction then right at the mini roundabout, over the blue bridge and right along Wilderspool Causeway (A49) to return to Morrisons Car Park. |
