Lleyn Peninsular tour - Stage 2 Cycle Route
Cycle Steps | |
Stage 2 of the tour from Porthmadoc to Caernarfon. This section is from Pwllheli to Rhiw following the south coast of the Llyen Peninsular. Return is by bus No 17. Timetable here. http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/gwy_amserlen_bws.asp?rhif_gwasanaeth=17_17B Although not a long distance there are 3 significant climbs on the way, the longest and hardest right at the end. If you're a tad phased you could do this section in reverse making it net downhill by about 300m. Almost all the route is along quiet country lanes, other than the bits through the towns of Pwllheli and Abersoch, and the climbs mean there are some splendid coastal views along the way. There is little in terms of refreshments other than in Abersoch. The first notable village is Rhyd-y-Clafdy which does offer a pleasant seat in the "sheepfold" for a rest. The route from there undulates along to Llanbedrog before the climb up to Mynytho with its many whitewashed houses but apparently no shop. Continue on the pleasant run down into the bustling centre for watersports of Abersoch. Plenty availability of refreshments here. Then onward to the old lead mining village of Llanengan (pub if required). Leave past the rather pretty church and follow round to tackle the final leg burn up to Rhiw. |
