This is a road route, that is quite difficult due to the winding, climbing hills, but its got some lovely country roads down to the A5, great riding roads and spectacular views. Starting at Wardown Park, head down New Bedford Rd (A6) towards Luton. Veer right into Telford Way (A505), which is very busy at traffic times. At the roundabout go right onto Hatters Way (A5065). Continue till the 2nd roundabout and turn right onto Skimpot Road (A5065), then at the next rounabout turn left onto the Luton Rd (A505). Head towards Dunstable (Tescos roundabout), where the road becomes Church St, then West Street (B489). Turn left into Whipsnade Rd (B4541) and head towards the Dunstable Downs. This is the first real hill challenge. At the T junction turn left onto B4540 towards Kensworth. Through Kensworth the road becomes Common Rd, then Lynch Hill. At the A5 junction turn right towards Markyate. Just as you enter Markyate take a sharp left into Luton Rd (B4540) and head towards Slip End. There are a couple of hills and a nice straight stretch, as the road becomes Markyate Road. In Slip End take a left at the crossroads into Grove Road, then a right onto Woodside Rd, following it around a sharp left bend. At the junction turn right onto the Luton Rd and go under the M1. At the junction turn right into Newlands Rd (B4540), by Stockwood Park. Turn right into Church Rd (B4540) and go back under M1. Back in Slip End take a left at the crossroads again into Front St. Follow the left bend over the M1 then head down to the A1081 London Rd junction and turn left. Go straight over the M1 roundabout, staying on London Rd. Take a left into Whitehill Ave, and at the B4540 turn right into Farley Hill, heading for Luton. This becomes Chapel St, which is a very speedy down hill, heading under the A505. turn left into Stuart Street, then right into George St West. At the junction turn left into George St and at the end, right into Manchester St, passing the Town Hall on your left. Turn right down Bridge Street, with the Galaxy on your left. Then left into Guildford St. Follow the one way system, left into Mill Street, right at the lights into New Beford Road and under the railway lines, then right into Hucklesby Way (A6). Head straight over the junction into Midland Road and follow this to the junction, where you turn left into Church St. Head straight across the roundabout into Hitchin Rd, where there is a very long climb. Turn left at the roundabout into Stockingstone Rd (A5228) and head straight down the hill. Go straight ahead at the roundabout into Montrose Ave (A5228), then left at the roundabout onto Alexandra Ave. Take a left into Carlton Crescent and sweep round to the right. At the end of the road, turn right into Alexandra Ave. At the roundabout go left into Blenheim Crescent, then go left into Argyll Ave. At the end of Argyll Ave turn left into Marlborough Rd, go the the end of the road and turn right into Alexandra Ave. At the junction turn right back into New Bedford Road (A6) and stop infront of Wardown Park, where you started. |
