I've cycled this route starting at Inverbervie. It can be a lovely route - very quiet roads and some long straights to get the speed up. One word of warning the road surface coming north out of Montrose is dreadful - huge potholes. If I do this route I go to Hillside and cut across at the malt mill road to the Esk Bridge.
