Fantastic scenery on the Crieff to Dunkeld road, though the hail/snow shower didn't help.. Once in the sun it was a great downhill to Dunkeld and a fairly easy ride back to Perth. I'd say it was 53 miles to Perth and it only took me 3 1/2 hours cycle time with a stop for lunch in Birnam.

I rode this anti-clockwise, starting and finishing at Almondbank (I missed out Perth). I also missed out Crieff (twilight was approaching) by taking the B8063 from Buchanty back to Moneydie (this is a very quiet road, although the surface is a bit rought). Total distance was 42 miles. Very nice cycle with a variety of terrain and scenery. My favourite parts were the gently undulating road from Almondbank to Dunkeld, and the long downhill through the Sma' Glen towards Crieff (this is the most 'highlandy' part of the ride).

I've done roughly the same route with a trike and trailer several times now. Both directions. Like Pete, I've also went down glen almond past buchanty spout. A bit more challenging, but shorter and much quieter. Follow signs for methven, or pitcairngreen, both lead back to the A85 eventually. Another good variation is via the B9099 stanley/caputh/dunkeld.

Really enjoyed this route. stay in Luncarty so rode from there. Also done this route in opposite direction starting with Dunkeld from Luncarty and so forth. Dunkeld to Crieff is a long gradual climb for many many miles but it's worth it just to get to the amazing run down into Gilmerton!! The road from Crieff to Perth is quite an easy one and a great way to finish the ride. Will try it the other way round next time. I think it will be much quicker the other way as the long incline from Dunkeld to ward Crieff slows things down considerably. Completed the route in 3.20 approx. thoroughly enjoyed, cheers for posting. :-)
