1. Another attempt at finding a long training ride in this area without too many A roads, but its impossible to completely avoid them. I did the route anti-clockwise, through Crowthorne and up to Wokingham, follow the B3349 through Barkham. Short stretch on A327, then back onto B3349 at Shinfield. At Heckfield, take B3011 to Hartley Wintney. Navigate minor roads through Dogmersfield and Crondall down into Farnham - this section is surprisingly hilly, but very pretty, and quite easy to get lost without a good map. At Farnham station, follow Cycle Route 22 to Guildford to avoid the A31 (there are sections of 22 that are a bit rough, but not impassable on a road bike). The hill down into Guildford is VERY steep, making me glad I hadn't gone clockwise! Negotiate the joys of Guildford town centre traffic system (avoid it at 5pm on a Friday, unlike me!) to the A322, north to Worplesdon, then B3032 to Pirbright. By keeping left through the woods, drop down into Mytchett. Here, you can pick up the Blackwater Valley path north, or stay on the roads, B3272 to Hawley, Yateley and back to Sandhurst. |
