Cycle Steps |
1. Circular route from Helensburgh taking in the lovely glens, Glen Fruin and Glen Douglas, a ferry ride across Loch Lomond. then on to Drymen where you will follow NCN route 7 to Balloch, the gateway to the National Park. Now a run up the west side of Loch Lomond and back to Helensburgh.
1. The route shown starts from Craigendoran but could easily start from the centre of Helensburgh.
2. Ride up Sinclair Street and out the top of Helensburgh then turn left into Glen Fruin.
3. Glen fruin is a great quiet road but beware of the cattle grids.
4. From the end of the glen turn right and continue down hill to the roundabout at the Notrh end of the Naval Base. Turn right at the roundabout and up over the hill to the Whistlefield roundabout and the right again.
5. Now follow the A814 up Loch Long. This is generally quiet but the road is only just more than single track and is used by tourist coaches.
6. Turn right into Glen Douglas, Big climb, but worth it.
7. At the end of the glen turn right and then turn into the carpark for the Inverbeg Hotel and follow the signs for the ferry.
8. Ferry across to Rowardennan and follow the road down Loch Lomond to Drymen. You now join the NCN route 7. Follow the signs to Balloch.
9. Once at Lomons shores follow the cycle track up the west side of Loch Lomond to the Arden roundabout.
10. Now follow the cycle path over the hill back to Helensburgh. |
