1. Part two of a Coast to coast ride designed to give the flavour of Wainwright but only follow that path on bridleways over the North York moors. Part two is harder, involving more off-road riding, mostly on good bridleways but with some hard climbs and a bike-carry necessary towards the end.
Coming out of Grosmont, the route avoids a double-chevron road climb but instead crosses two fords, then some pushing for most riders back onto the moors.
To avoid the bike-carry, cross the busy A169, continue straight for 1.5 miles and turn left onto Sustrans Moors to Sea route 7 to Robin Hoods Bay and join the disused railway line south to Scarborough. The route mapped here reaches the coast at Ravenscar, avoiding a hard climb on the old railway line, and joining it for a long gradual descent to Cloughton.
The route ends at Scarborough train station. |
