Cycle Steps |
1. From Spennymoor head to Croxdale, Brandon, Brancepeth, Stanley Crook-and Oakenshaw. Head back through Brancepeth and down to Whitworth and Spennymoor.
The route is quite hilly, with a mix of short steep climbs and longer gentler rises. There are some nice fast flat sections too. |

Just be careful of the hairpin bend that sits at the bottom of a very short but very steep drop at around 7 miles in. It's caught me out twice now. Partly due to the poor road surface on that bend, but also because it partially floods in wet weather, leaving the surface muddy for days. You have been warned. Take it slowly! Apart from this it is a beautifully scenic route, with open views and little traffic.
