1. Hazards: "Old Knebworth Lane" can be very dangerous in the evenings - it has very poor lighting and is dark almost all of the time. You must be an experienced rider to tackle that lane. Also, most of the B-roads on the course can also be dangerous, with high-speeding cars etc.
Places to refuel: The Roebuck Inn can be very nice; there is a public house with benches outside, and is a good place to stop. It is located opposite Old Knebworth Lane, Stevenage entrance. Also, At the Roebuck Shops, there is a cycling shop that I would highly recommend - "Marshall Cycles". They are very helpful and could send you ron your way in the case of almost any bike error.
My Tips: Ride the route part-by-part, just to get to grips with the route in segments, before you do it as a whole. I would suggest doing it in 2 parts: 1) Start, Aston, Bennington, Watton-at-Stone, Datchworth, Knebworth, Roebuck Inn. 2) Roebuck Inn, Old Knebworth, Welwyn, Knebworth, Roebuck Inn, End
Part 2 sounds shorter but in reality is probably the harder part of the course, with Mardley Hill to tackle.
Overall: Good luck! |
