Cycle Steps |
1. I started at Ulverston, but you could start at any of the towns on this route. There are three nasty climbs on this route. Immediately after Broughton Beck (just north of Ulverston) there is a steep climb. Cycling from Brantwood house on the North East Coast of Coniston Water up to the B5285 is a long and arduous climb. After that, there was a painful climb on the A593 between Ambleside and Coniston (although this was the easiest of the 3). The road surface between Ambleside and Grasmere isn't great, and that can be a little tough if the wind's in your face. |

Landmarks/Sites to see? |
Around Brantwood House is the setting of Swollow's and Amazon's. Otherwise it's the usual sights; pretty mountains, lush lakes and Wordsworth's grave and gingerbread shop at Grasmere (and nice towns too). There are lots of outdoor shops and a couple of bike shops in Ambleside. Gill cycles is a good shop in Ulverston.
