1. This road route takes you from a car park in the centre of Hartley Wintney, out into the Hampshire countryside, using country lanes. There are a couple of times you have to cross the A287 but the rest of the time you will mostly be on quiet country roads and likely to see as many bikes as cars.
The route takes you uphill, on the A30 and A323, out of Hartley Wintney past the old church. You will then follow Church Lane and Taplin's Farm Lane over the motorway, and on into The Hurst and Chatter Alley into Dogmersfield. on the way you will pass the Barley Mow pub and Basingstoke Canal visitors carpark heading on towards Crookham Village. Whilst still in Dogmersfield you will take a right just before the Queens Head pub into Church Lane, heading in the direction of Crondall.
Along this road you will eventually pass the Four Seasons Hotel before reaching the A287. You turn left at the A287 junction and cycle along this busy road for only a hundred yards. Here you cross over the road and take the next country lane on the right. This lane will take you through farming country and after a number of turns, bring you to Roke Farm, where you will take a left onto Roke Lane. Follow this and Itchel Lane into Crondall.
When you reach Crondall you will come to a T junction with Well Road. Here you hang a right and follow Well Rad on up to Well. When you reach the The Chequers Inn‎ at Well, take another right onto White Hill, heading towards Long Sutton. Follow White Hill for a short while, then turn right onto Long Lane. This lane takes you uphill past RAF Odiham and eventually into the village of Odiham. At the High Street junction in Odiham, turn right and cycle out of the village on the Farnham Road and up to the A287 roundabout. Turn first left onto the A287 and cycle another short distance on this busy road. After around 200 yards, turn right onto London/Odiham Road, B3016. Cycle up towards Winchfield past Odiham Common. As you cycle up the gentle incline of this tree lined road you will pass Winchfield station and cycle under the M3 Motorway before finally reaching the A30 junction. Turn right onto the A30, which again is a busy road. This is the last leg of the journey that will take you back to the centre of Hartley Wintney.
The route will take you past the Wagon and Horses pub were they have a beer garden around the back, with space to park your bike near were you sit.
The route also takes you through interesting and varied countryside, with high hedge lanes, woods and farmers fields. The route undulates for most of the way, with the most significant hills on the road out of Crondall and from Well to Odiham. |
