1. A very pleasant road ride, on A and B roads, through some of the best Somerset and Dorset Countryside. The route is also a mixture of hills and flats, with medium hills between Sherborne and Cerne Abbas.
This can either be an approx 65 mile return journey, for those fitter people amomgst us, or a one way journey, as detailed, in either direction with a simple train journey back. There are car parking facilities at both Castle Cary and Dorchester West Train stations or nearby. |

Landmarks/Sites to see? |
En route there are plenty of places available for breaks. Castle Cary is a pretty little town. Between Castle Cary and Sparkford you pass the internationally famous Haynes Motor Museum, which has a cafe. Sherborne is famous for its schools, whilst further south you have Cerne Abbas. This is an idyllic village with a famous chalk carving of the Cerne Abbas Giant alongside this route. There are plenty of places to have a mid journey break here. Dorchester is also a pretty town, and is the County town of Dorset, again with plenty of refreshment places. Train services are approximately every two hours and take nearly an hour.
