1. This is a fairly flat road route, on mainly A and B roads, with one challenging hill.
Starting from Sevenston the route is fairly flat and follows a coastal road along Saltcoats Beach and Ardrossan, where you can catch a ferry to the Isle of Arran. (Thats another route to try some other day!). The A78 between Ardrossan and Seamill gives some good views of the Isle of Arran, and can be a great run without any headwind. However, it can get a bit breezy sometimes. Turning from Seamill into West Kilbride there is a bit of a challenge with the hill. Once at the top and through West Kilbride the B781 is undulating, but nothing too hard if taken at an easy pace. Being a B road, it is a bit quieter too, but just keep an eye out for the odd fast car. Once you hit Dalry turn back for Kilwinning with a long sloping hill, but it looks harder than it actually is. From Kilwinning it's an easy 1-2 miles back to the start. |
