1. This is a road route, mainly on A and B roads, with a few hills to negotiate, on the southern half of the island.
The route starts off quite flat, as you head up through to Carisbrooke. From Carsibrooke there is a bit of a hill out onto Clatterford Road, B3323, which then becomes a nice steady flat towards Bowcombe. From Bowcombe there's a steady incline all the way to the top of Shorwell Shute. You have now earned a rest, and coming down this side you can let it go all the way to the bottom. Now have a lovely ride through Kingston to Chale Green.
You now face the biggest hill of the ride, Blythe Shute all the way up past Blackgang Chine, till you get to the top! Nice View though, (makes it all worth While!). And of course, you now get a lovely downhill ride all the way into Niton, and through to Whitwell.
Most of the ride is now on the flat, with only a few hillocks in the middle, but nothing like before. Now through Wroxall to Apse Heath, Horringford and Arreton. From here its pretty much all downhill, past the Newport Football Club and back to the start. |
