1. Day 10 of our charity bike ride to the Picos de Europa Mountains in northern Spain. For more info see www.picosriders.org.uk
We come to/from Spain by Brittany Ferries on their weekly sailing at Santander. We have 2 days to kill until the Monday departure. Not wasted days as there is lots to see!
Today we explore a bit of the rocky Cantabrian coast. Head down the Saja valley on the CA280, which at Valle becomes the CA180. Continue through the small town of Cabezon de la Sal to meet the CA135. Head west and shortly, at a roundabout the CA135 branches off to the right (north) and takes you into the Comillas.
The town is worth exploring to see the big mansions paid for with monies brought back from the Americas, plus several buildings designed by the world famous architect, Gaudi.
Head down hill to the magnificent sandy beach for a refreshment stop, or just stay and chill out!
We wanted to see more of the local coast, its rocky coves and little sandy bays, so later headed west, exploring each the little lanes around each headland. Eventually, you come to the hamlet of Transvia. Continue through to meet the main CA131 and return to Comillas, from whence we returned to our posada at Renedo. |
