1. From the start in Whitwick there is a steep climb, which then flattens off, leading to a further few miles of climbing to one on the highest points in Leicestershire. Then its all down hill to Bradgate Park (the park may be busy if it's a sunny day). Ride through Bragate Park, on a choice of tracks and paths, to Newtown Linford and then take a small climb towards Groby Pool.
From Groby, head towards Ratby and then Desford, on the B5380. There are a few small climbs and traffic volume could be high along this part of the route. Head out of Desford passing through Kirkby Mallory and on into Barwell, where ther could be a high volume of traffic. From Barwell its mostly flat, on great biking roads, with a small volume of traffic, through Stoke Golding, Shenton, Congerstone and Shackerstone. there is then a short steep climb to Heather. It's then back to flat roads all the way back through Norton Le Heath, Packington and New Packington to Swannington, though you need to watch crossing the very busy A551. There is a small climb out of Swanington back to the start at Whitwick, where the pubs are waiting. |
