1. You need to get the ferry across from Ardrossan, you can park your car here for £2 for the day instead of taking it on the ferry across. Before you start cycling, check the weather to see which way the wind is blowing, as the west coast is very exposed and it could be a real hard slog if you go against the wind. We started by turning left coming out of the ferry terminal. This takes you straight onto the first climb of the day. You will then spend the next 15-20 miles going up more hills than down them. Once you get round to Blackwaterfoot it flattens out and it becomes an easy cycle round to Lochranza. Once in Lochranza however there is a substantial climb ahead of you that the locals call the Bogle. It is a real leg burner after having done close to 40/45 miles already. When you get to the top, it is downhill all the way to Sannox and then a flat run back into Broddick.
It's then back on the ferry to get back to the car park in Ardrossan. |
