1. This is a mixed route of cycle tracks (on old railway lines) and quiet country roads
The route starts out on the Derwent Valley line and heads left towards Knitsley. After passing Knitsley turn right onto Butsfield Lane. You now follow a number of quiet country lanes to the B6296. Turn left onto the B6296, and then right onto another country lane. This leads to Ragpath Lane, where you need to nearly turn back on yourself to get onto Front Street. Follow this through Cornsay and all the way to the A68 T junction. Turn left onto the A68, to take a short detour off the route shown in the map, into Tow Law, where there are 2 Coffee shops, other shops and public houses.
Retrace the route out of Tow Law on the A68, and follow this for about 1/2 a mile towards High Stoop. The A68 is a busy fast road. At High Stoop, turn right onto the B6296, and follow this towards Satley. Before reaching Satley, take the first left along Doverhouse lane, back towards the A68. Crossing the A68 you rejoin quiet country roads heading North, before linking up with the C2C. This takes you back across the A68 around Rowley and heads all the way back to the start point.
