1. Cycling into Plyouth City Centre from north of Mutley Plain is challenging if you want to stay alive. This route is the best I've found, using back lanes, parks and quieter roads, whilst also trying to avoid the worst of the hills (not always successfully, but this is Plymouth, after all!). It also, more or less, avoids Mutley Plain, although it does involve a couple of bits where technically you need to get off and walk for a few yards to avoid cycling the wrong way down one way streets :-) |
The route starts at The Rising Sun pub, Compton and takes you near Mutley Plain, where there are shops, including a bike shop (Cycle Scene). It then goes past the University of Plymouth and into the heart of the City Centre, going past the Drake Circus shopping Centre and close to Cogs, another bike shop. After that you head out around the Hoe, which is Plymouth's star attraction, and a short detour would take in the historic Barbican too. Then the route heads back through town and past the railway station, before heading back up towards Compton.
