1. This is a mixed route, on traffic free trails, minor suburban roads and canal towpaths.
Avoiding the congestion of Spaghetti Junction the ride follows the greenway all the way to the stunning Sutton Park Nature Reserve. There are acres of woodlands, meadows, farmland as well as pools, streams and three local nature reserves along the way.
The route starts near the football stadium of Premiership Club Birmingham City. It then follows urban roads West across the city, passing Birmingham New Street Railway Station and Edgbaston Reservoir. It then picks up the A457, past Birmingham City Hospital and through Smethwick, before turning right onto the A4252. At the large roundabout you come off the main roads and pass under the M5, heading towards West Bromwich. You run parallell to the M5 for a short distance before crossing back over it. You head left and skirt around Swan Pool, Hill Top Golf Course and Sandwell Valley RSPB Reserve. Continuing North you pick up the canal, go under the M5, cross the canal, swing right under the M6 and cross the canal again. Head along the canal for a short distance and once more cross the canal heading towards Yew Tree Estate, Walsall. Go through Yew Tree Estate and Caldmore then head right to pick up the B4151. Follow this all the way to Streetly. Now you head South through Sutton Park, passing by Longmoor Pool. You then head through Kingstanding and into Perry Common.
