Cycle Steps
1. This is a road route route that takes in a lot of countryside, as I have avoided major routes, which are are often busy. However, there are some busier spots, most notably on the approach to St. Aldgate's, Oxford where the town centre roads can get very busy at times. The ride is quite long at 75 miles, but it is manageable for anyone capable of speeds between 15 and 20mph over a long distance. It may not suit riders looking to spend a long time admiring the view (although there is plenty of it), but it will suit those looking to keep fit and who enjoy a challenge. Having said that, the route either passes through, or goes near, a number of villages, which are the main attraction on the route. These are quiet and sometimes picturesque (especially around Warwick itself), and make for good cycling, as there is less traffc. However, there are the usual hazards with the many counrty roads, such as farm traffic, blind bends and, of course, the occasional boy-racer who sees a country road and decides he should try his new sports car in 5th gear! The route takes the rider to one of the prettiest cities in Britain, that is Oxford. The old buildings and delighful small shops are a joy to behold, and are a fine reward for several hours hard cycling (or leisurly pedalling for those who are so inclined).
Landmarks/Sites to see?
Oxford is very picturesque, as is the countryside around Warwick. In terms of bikeshops, there is likely to be one in Oxford itself but I would advise bringing along a pump and a puncture repair kit just in case!
