Cycle Steps
1. This 20 mile circular route covers three small hills (Little Burstead, 77m; Old Church Hill, 114m; Horndon-on-the Hill, 39m). There are some nice quiet lanes on the eastern side of the ride where you can look towards your destination of Langdon Hills. Sundbury Farm Road and Blind Lane at the northern end of the route are rough in places. Head North on High Road, over the B1036 and on over the B148 roundabout to just before the A127 junction. Turn right onto Willowfield and follow this as it sweeps left over the A127 and on till the roundabout. Turn right onto High Road North and then left, before the A176 junction, onto Dunton Road. Turn right, off Dunton Road onto Rectory Road, heading for Little Burstead. As you sweep right into Little Burstead, take the left turn onto Clock House Road. Follow this road, as it becomes Tye Common Road. Turn left, off Tye Common Road onto Sudburys Farm Road, and follow this till the T junction. Turn left onto Blind Lane and again follow this till it comes to a T junction. Turn right onto Billericay Road, heading towards Herongate. Take the first left, off Billericay Road and onto Dunton Road, heading for Dunton. Follow the road through Dunton and Dunton Wayletts, and over the A127 roundabout onto the B148. Take the first right, off the A148 onto Lower Dunton Road, and follow this across the railway lines heading towards Little Malgraves. Before reaching Little Malgraves, turn right onto Doesgate Lane, heading for Bulphan. At the T junction, turn left onto Brentwood Road, then right onto Church Road. Take a right onto the A128 and immediately take a left back off again, continuing on Church Road. Before Church Road take a sharp swing right, turn off left onto Church Lane, heading towards Orsett. Follow the road till the B188 junction and turn right onto Conways Road, B188, still heading for Orsett. Take the first left, off the B188 and onto Prince Charles Avenue, heading for Horndon on the Hill. At the A128 go right onto and then left off the A128, turning onto Orsett Road. Follow the road into Horndon on the Hill. In Hordon on the Hill, turn left onto High Road and follow this up to the B1007 junction. Turn left onto North Hill, B1007, and follow until the Little Malgraves turn off on the left. Turn left off the B1007 and onto Lower Dunton Road. Follow this through Little Malgrave and past the golf course. After thr golf course, turn right onto Old Church Hill, and follow this to the B1007 junction. Turn left onto High Road, B1007, and follow this into Lagdon Hills. Turn left, off the B1007, but remaining on High Road and follow this back to the start point.
Landmarks/Sites to see?
No bike shops en route, but there is the Crown pub at the top of Old Church Hill, plus the Bell at Horndon-On-The-Hill.
