Cycle Steps
1. This is a very peaceful, scenic, and manageable road route, on a mix of A, B and country roads, that has a couple of killer climbs thrown in to get the heart pumping. The climb to Farley out of Matlock is the worst, and you finish with a climb back up to Crich. All roads are very scenic and quiet, apart from the A6. Head out of Crich on Sandy Lane, B5053, heading into Whatstandwell over the river and the railway bridge to the A6 T junction. At the junction turn right onto the A6 and follow this through Cromford, Matlock Bath and on till the A615 roundabout in Matlock. At the roundabout, turn left onto Bakewell Road, still the A6, and take the forked turn off to the right, off the A6 and onto Dimple Road, heading towards Upper Hackney. Follow the road as it swings left past the triangular island, and goes on till the T junction. At the junction, turn right onto Smedley Street West, then take the immediate left turn onto Farley Hill, heading through Upper Hackney towards Farley. Follow the road through Farley and on till the turn off on the right with the grass triangle by Flash Dam. At the grass triangle turn right onto Jaggers Lane, heading towards Robridding. Follow the road straight over the crossroads, and on till the T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Whitefield Lane, heading away from Robridding. Follow this lane through a sharp turn right, a slower sweep left and anoother sharp turn right. As the road goes to turn sharp left once more, turn right onto Eaton Lane, heading towards Kelstedge. Follow the lane with no turn off to the A632 T junction at Kelstedge. At the junction, turn left onto the A632, the immediately tturn right, off again onto Ashover Road, B6036, heading towards Ashover. Follow the B6036 through Ashover, and on till Fallgate. At Fallgate tthe B6036 turns sharp left, take the turn off on the right, off the B6036, heading towards Milltown. Follow the road as it takes a sharp right and left through Milltown and becomes Oaksledge Lane, heading towards Ashover Hay. Follow the road to the B6014 T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Dark Lane, B6014, and follow the B6014 through Ashover Hay, and on till the crossroads at Ogston Reservoir, where the B6014 has right of way. At the crossroads, turn right, off the B6014 onto Quarry Lane, which takes you by Ogston Reservoir to Brackenfield. At Brackenfield the road turns sharp right and becomes Church Lane. Follow this road as it becomes School Lane, then turn off left onto Home Lane, heading towards Wessington. Follow the road to the A615 T junction. At the junction, turn left onto Matlock Road, A615, heading towards Wessington. Follow the A615 through Wessington, New Wessington, and on towards Oakenthorpe. However, take the turn off on the right, towards South Wingfield, before the A615 goes under the railway bridge. This takes you onto Birches Lane which goes to a junction in South Wingfield. At the junction, negotiate your way right onto Manor Road, B5035, heading towards Crich. Follow the B5035 back to the start point in Crich.
