1. A very varied, scenic bike ride. Lakes, rivers, woods, moorland, and much more to see!
Start at the northern end of Bala, take A4212 and head up the hill sign posted to the Canolfan Trywern, the Whitewater Centre at approx 4 miles. A good tea/cake stop and well worth a visit to watch some white water rafting/kayaking etc. After this continue on A4212 to Llyn Cellyn (worth a short detour along the dam for viewing), follow road around the lake. Approx 1 ml past Lake Cellyn take RT turn (approx opposite turn off to B4391 on LFT).
Follow this minor rd on RT, back around south side of lake to eventually come back to the A4212 and follow back into Bala. At Bala go RT (south) on A494 and follow road down past Lake Bala (joint use cycle path here). Worth a picnic stop to see wind surfing and other activities on the lake.
After passing south of Lake Bala, take LFT turn onto B4403, towards Llanuwchllyn. Continue on the B4403 as it turns north east and heads back around lake and back to Bala. |
The high lights to rest the legs, are to watch kayaking/rafting at the Whitewater Centre, which also has a cafe.
Bala has plenty of places for food/drink, also a bike shop - E.R Roberts in high St.
The Visitor Centre at north end of Lake Bala has free cycle maps, 4 sign posted routes from Bala.
Have a picnic stop here and watch the wind surfers and other water sports on the famous and beautiful Lake Bala.
At the south end of the lake, at Llanuwchllyn, you can put your bike on the lakeside Bala Lake Railway for an easy ride back into town.
