1. This is a nominally 50 mile circular route on very pleasant country lanes, passing through some Essex villages.
The route starts and ends in Harlow, with a main refreshment stop in Writtle at about the 30 mile mark. The outward journey has a large section on National Cycle Route 50.
The return journey is mainly on National Cycle Route 1. Both National Cycle Routes are very well signed. The whole route is on OS Sheet 167 in the Landranger series.
There are no very steep hills.

Landmarks/Sites to see? |
The route has been designed with the need for refreshments in mind. The start and finish is close to Bush Fair Cafe Pizzeria which is a general cafe selling the usual selection of meals. The main stop en route is at the Writtle Agricultural College Tea Rooms, where better than average cakes and hot snacks are available. Both establisnments are open on Sundays. Check on opening times if arriving early or late.
